Date published: 15 November 2018

Swimmers Lucy Cannavan and Amarai Hoque, both from Aquabears Swimming Club in Castleton, have been selected to swim for next year’s English Schools Inter-Divisional Championships held at Crawley Pool in March next year.

The competition is a long course level one meet, with competition fierce with divisions posting teams from across the country.

Lucy, who attends Cardinal Langley RC High School in Middleton, is currently second in the rankings for her 14 years age group in the North West for 50, 100, and 200 metres breaststroke.

Amarai, who attends Newman RC College in Chadderton, is also 2nd in the rankings for her 13 years age group in the north west region for 50 and 100 metres backstroke.

Both swimmers are coached by Mark Crouch, who is the Head Coach at the club.

This year, if the Junior team swim well, they could be selected to swim for the National Team at one of Europe’s top international swim meets.

All swimmers were selected based on their rankings from the end of the last swimming season, the top swimmers from the north west will join to form a competitive squad.
